New Products From Bainbridge International at Southampton Boat Show

14/09/2001

Bainbridge International Ltd are exhibiting two brand new product ranges at this years Southampton International Boat Show.   Diax Carbon Fibre Sailcloth and Sailman-3500 Full Batten System, both these products can be seen on the stand G81 in Ocean Hall.

Diax-OS-HMC, carbon fibre sailcloth

At the leading edge of yacht racing, where available technology is pushing rig and boat design to greater extremes, Bainbridge International has developed a new concept in sail fabric, that combines High Modulus Carbon and Twaron fibres, in a unique ‘sealed weave’ system.

DIAX-OS-HMC is constructed by using Carbon and Twaron ribbons in a very open, crimp free weave. Reducing crimp or ‘waviness’ in a fabric, helps reduce the amount of stretch in the finished sail. The resulting net of ribbons is then sealed together before laminating between two lightweight mylar films. This means that the primary load bearing structure of the finished sail, is a single unified component and therefore significantly more stable.

The two fibres compliment each other, with the Carbon minimising stretch and Twaron adding durability and resistance to shock loads. The result is a high performance sail fabric that has the strength to withstand the extremes of modern race boat loadings, while remaining durable for longer lasting sail shape.

Sailman-3500, Full Batten System

Sailman-3500 has been specifically designed for use in composite spars or masts with very narrow grooves. Comprising of intermediate slides and batten slides that can be used with our Series 35 batten boxes, Sailman-3500 has been specifically designed for what can usually be difficult applications:

• Sail Feeding Gates: Flat versions are designed to slide inside the track and not on the aft face of the mast so they can be used on spars where the feeding gate is not flush.
• Composite Spars: No exposed metal parts that can wear through glass and carbon.
• Narrow Grooves: The Ultra narrow waist of the slug version is ideal for wing masts and masts with very narrow grooves originally design for a boltrope.

All Sailman-3500 batten slides are fitted with the solid stainless steel universal hinge from our reputed Sailman-4000 slides. Intermediate slides are fitted with a ‘cotton reel’ for webbing to the sail and are also ideal as head of heavier duty luff slides. The latest plastic alloys have been used in the slide moulding to provide super strength and a low friction additive makes for easier operation.
