The £100 Extension... 10/06/2001 Paying nearly £100 for a Tiller Extension might seem a bit stiff, in fact Bainbridge International, who are the UK Importers for the new Ronstan Battlestick, claim precisely that. The Battlestick is made from super stiff ‘laid up’ carbon fibres, which compared with other pultruded carbon types, makes it very strong indeed. They claim it is virtually impossible to crush, splinter or bend round gunwales and it is half the weight of most alloy equivalents. Featherlight control is made even easier because the non-slip Hyperlon hand grip is located on the extending section, so even out at maximum length, you are not left with just a ‘rubber ball’ to hang onto. The locking mechanism is positive and dependable, requiring about a 5o turn of the extending arm to engage or disengage. The whole package is finished off with a universal joint that is as durable as the rest of the unit. The only problem of course, is that one Tiller Extension looks rather like another. Only the Ronstan Battlestick Logo and the probable smug grin on the helm’s face, will show where the money’s gone!
